Seagrove Alaska (AK-16111-SS) of Ketchikan, AK is voluntarily recalling the shellfish products identified below because the products were held in the company's wet storage operation during a period in which the wet storage water treatment system did not operate according to the approved wet storage operating plan.
Out of an abundance of caution, Seagrove Alaska (AK-16111-SS) is recalling all affected product that was held in the wet storage operation during the identified period.
Consumers, retailers, restaurants, distributors, and other customers should not sell, serve, distribute, or consume the recalled product.
Recalled Wet Stored Product
Species: Pacific Oysters
Wet Storage Location: Ketchikan System 2
Shipment Period: August 2-6, 2026
Lot/Tag Numbers: Lot 072726 (Wet Storage Lot w-072726) and Lot 080326 (Wet Storage Lot w-080326)
The affected shellfish may be identified by the shellstock tags, lot codes, labels, invoices, or other identifying information listed above.
The recalled product was distributed to AK, CA, GA, IL, MN, and WA through wholesale distributors, restaurants, retailers, and direct sales. Seagrove Alaska (AK-16111-SS) has contacted all customers that have received affected product on August 7, 2026, informing them of the voluntary recall.
Seagrove Alaska (AK-16111-SS) is voluntarily recalling the affected shellfish because they were held in wet storage during a period when total coliform results from the wet storage water exceeded the applicable operational limit or acceptance criteria established for the facility's approved wet storage operation.
On August 7, 2026, routine monitoring/testing of the wet storage water identified out of specification total coliform levels. Because the wet storage process water did not meet the applicable microbiological criteria during the affected period, Seagrove Alaska (AK-16111-SS) could not verify that the sanitary quality of shellfish held in the system was maintained in accordance with the facility's approved wet storage operating plan.
As a precautionary measure, Seagrove Alaska (AK-16111-SS) immediately placed all potentially affected shellfish on hold and initiated an investigation. Subsequently, the company has voluntarily recalled product that was held in the wet storage system during the period in question.
At this time, Seagrove Alaska (AK-16111-SS) has not confirmed the presence of a specific pathogenic organism in the recalled shellfish. The recall is being conducted because the elevated total coliform results represent a deviation from the established wet storage water quality requirements and the company cannot assure the sanitary condition of the affected product. Seagrove Alaska (AK-16111-SS) has received no reports of illness associated with this product as of the date of this notice.
What Customers Should Do
Customers who received the affected product should:
- Immediately stop selling, serving, distributing, or otherwise using the recalled shellfish.
- Segregate and identify the affected product.
- Maintain the product under appropriate control pending instructions from Seagrove Alaska (AK-16111-SS) and/or the applicable regulatory authority.
- Contact Seagrove Alaska (AK-16111-SS) to arrange for the product to be returned, destroyed, or otherwise dispositioned as directed.
- Notify any customers or downstream accounts to whom the affected shellfish were distributed.
Restaurants, retailers, distributors, and other food establishments should check their inventory and records to determine whether they received any of the affected lots.
Consumer Instructions
Consumers who purchased the affected shellfish should not eat the product. Consumers should discard the product or return it to the place of purchase in accordance with the instructions provided by the seller or Seagrove Alaska (AK-16111-SS).
Consumers who have consumed the affected shellfish and are experiencing symptoms or have concerns about possible illness should contact a healthcare professional. Distribution of affected product will not resume until Seagrove Alaska (AK-16111-SS) has determined, in consultation with the applicable regulatory authority as appropriate, that the wet-storage operation is operating in compliance with the approved operating plan and applicable shellfish sanitation requirements.
