Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper Warns Consumers Kerosene Sold at Wright’s Grocery in Oglethorpe is Volatile, Should Not be Used

Atlanta, Ga - Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper is warning consumers who purchased kerosene on or after October 8, 2024, from Wrights Grocery located at 2180 GA Hwy 49 South in Oglethorpe, GA 31068 not to use the product in their kerosene heaters, lamps, or other appliances.

The kerosene is possibly contaminated with gasoline and has the potential to cause an explosion or fire if used in home heaters or lamps. Inspectors from the Georgia Department of Agriculture discovered the contaminated product during a routine inspection of the store.

The Department’s Fuel & Measures Division issued a “stop-sale” order and the kerosene pump at the store is currently closed. The pump will remain closed until the tank and lines have been cleaned and a new shipment has been tested and approved by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
